Geopolitics

Wrysckaria could be considered a middle power of the North. They maintain relatively good relationships with many Northern countries, and a particularly good one with Fraum, a much larger economy.

History

Early settlement

Today’s Wrysckaria has been inhabited by the Greitz, and then the old Wryscks having immigrated from far North since the 2nd millenium. Early villages of Wryscks and Greitzs were found scatteredly around hot spring areas, as these were deemed most suitable for habitation.

The Greitz is an ancient Northern people who would then split to multiple groups like the Otterfolks of Wrysckaria, the Otterfolks of Kaschavala the modern Fraumish. While some historians attributed the split to each groups’ exposure to altering magic, different cultural outlooks also played a big role. The Otterfolks of Wrysckaria, characterized by their human-like skin and their slightly webbed hands and feet, has a culture that closely resemble their fellow Wryscks.

Cultivation and early magic use

Magic was discovered by the shaman of a Wrysck village as an effort to survive the harsh winter on the Nibelgas. The shaman watched his stale bread softened and expanded into a fluffy sponge in boiling water, then he thought about a blessing that makes one bite of bread rising when facing stomach liquid. The sygil he drew on the bread was the first Script magic ever used, and the sygil has been used for the traditional Northern rye bread eaten in Nibelgan countries. Fromt this point, Wrysck magic was developed, refined, and eventually branched to different disciplines.

For a very long time, the Wryscks used magic to make their environment more habitable. Most of their traditional magic involved a lot of heat, light, and longevity, or other practical spells instead of recreational ones.

Thanks to the discovery of magic, the Wrysck population quickly boomed, and they became the dominant ethnic in the area, many villages grouped into self-governing towns. These towns are still refered to today as Wrysckaria’s different regions.

Thanks to their fear of scarcity, conflicts rarely happened between them and the Greitz to preserve resources for necessary needs.

The First magic Boom

Timestamp: the 5th millenium

The first magic boom in Wrysckaria and other Nibelgan countries occured 3-4 years late compared to more Southern countries. Wrysck and Greitz magicians attempted many magic experiments, some of which severely violated today’s magic regulation. The infamous Greitz Script, which altered the genetic formation of a whole group of Greitz people, was one of them. A few conflicts happened between different towns and ethnics with magic being the main weapon.
