Heatwielding, or pyromancy, is a form of magic that manipulated the heat in objects and life forms. Popularized in many civilizations as an essential means of survival, heatwielding is the longstanding national magic of Wrysckaria.

Principles

Heatwielding assumes that all living beings need to stay warm to survive, therefore each of them possess and maintain a certain amount of heat. To use this form of magic is to be able to manipulate the heat within oneself and within others.

Heat sustains itself by consuming fuel. Therefore, manipulating one’s own body heat is considered dangerous and is generally avoided. Aside from the magician’s techniques, the power of heatwielding greatly depends on the magic properties of the fuel it feeds on. Oil and other organic matters used in Lower heatwielding are considered low-tier, as they are fast to burn through and they exhaust toxic fumes. Magicians using Higher heatwielding often uses coiled candles with wicks made out of Calorium, a mineral mined in the Nibelgas that lasts for a long time and enables powerful, intricate heatwielding.

A fire is the manifestation of heat. It is also the hardest part to control when one first learns heatwielding. Unless they have obtained a heatwielding license, general heatwielders are not allowed to create fire with their magic.

Cultures

Most heatwielders controls heat by hand, often with protection gloves in the modern day. The hand is also warm to the touch, therefore it becomes the symbol of this school of magic. In Wrysckaria, one can buy coiled wands made out of beeswax with hand motifs.

In many countries, it is forbidden to manipulate the heat of other citizens as it could threaten one’s health and life. Sucking the heat out of others is considered a serious magic crime, and could be trialed at the Aperium.

In Wrysckaria, despite being their national magic, heat magic is heavily regulated for its potential of destruction. When they reach 15, magicians who have completed general magic and safety training have to undergo the first heatwielder exam to obtain the heatwielding license. Only magicians with this license could create magic fire. People who don’t have this license use regular lighters, or firemaking artifacts created by licensed magicians. This regulation used to be controversal, especially amongst nationalists. However, the Hjartgar fire caused by irresponsible magic use in 872 that destroyed the Old Town hammered the law, making heat magic an exclusive ability of the educated.
